May 5, 2007 - Congratulations to Haakon Lenes, Evan Bruce, Jess Cockney and Graeme Killick for making the Junior National Ski Team! Banff Ski Runners is the most-represented club in the Able-bodied program!

April 27, 2007 - A new board for Banff Ski Runners has been elected. The Annual General Meeting was held on Friday, April 27th with ten members in attendence. Elected postions include: President (John Lynn); Vice President (Sheila Lenes); Secretary (Ray Schmidt); Treasurer (Roy Moe); Members at Large (Jane Green, Michel Dupuis).

April 16, 2007 - The wrap-up dinner was a success. A dear farewell is wished to Pat Brooks, Peter Christou and Dale Dorion for spending so many years on the executive. The words to the "rap" presented by the "little ones" is here (click here).

March 25, 2007 - Congratulations to Michalea (2nd), Haakon (3rd) and Graeme (3rd) for winning medals on the final day of racing at the National Ski Championships. This brings the medal tally to 2 gold, six silver and six bronze (14 total).

March 23, 2007 - Two more medals for Banff Ski Runners. Haakon Lenes wins silver in the classic sprint, while Jess Cockney gets bronze. Hillary Schrama and Michaela Howie finish 4th, other results include Zach Holland (8th) Martin Lenes (9th), Eric Groeneveld (11th), Flurina Keller (11th), Graeme Killick (21st), Gerard Garnier (23rd), Alastair Duncan (46th), and Paul Dupuis (33rd). March 21, 2007 - Banff Ski Runners gain three more medals at National Championships. In the middle distance classic events, Jess Cockney and Zach Holland bring home silver medals and Haakon Lenes wins a Bronze. This is Zach's second silver medal of the championship. Other results include Gerard Garnier (7th), Graeme Killick (7th), Eric Groeneveld (9th), Martin Lenes (28th), Paul Dupuis (14th), Flurina Keller (4th), Michaela Howie (24th) and Hillary Schrama (9th). Banff Ski Runners have won a total of nine medals so far at National Championships - two gold, four silver and three bronze. Full results are available at www.zone4.ca. The next event is the classic sprint on Friday.

March 20, 2007 - Four medals for Banff Ski Runners at National Championships today. Michaela Howie wins GOLD in Juvenile girls. Flurina Keller finishes a strong fourth. Zack Holland wins Silver in Juvenile boys, Paul Dupuis is fifteenth. Graeme Killick leads the charge with a bronze in Junior Boys, with Jesse Cockney in 4th, Martin Lenes 8th, Eric Groeneveld 10th, Gerard Garnier 11th and Alastair Duncan, fresh off a plane from Europe in 60th. Hillary Schrama was 15th in Junior Girls and Haakon Lenes wrapped up the medal count with a silver in the Junior Men. Full results are available at www.zone4.ca.

March 18, 2007 - Gold and Bronze for Banff Ski Runners in sprint relay at National Championships. After finishing 1-2 in the challenge men and 1st in the challenge women qualification rounds, Banff Ski Runners went on to win Gold in the Challenge men and Bronze in the challenge women. March 15, 2007 - Exciting week at World Junior Championships with Alex Harvey winning a bronze medal and placing 4th. Full results - see link below. Haakon and Alastair have also been skiing well - Haakon normally in the position of 2nd Canadian.

March 12, 2007 - Congratulations to Haakon Lenes and Alastair Duncan. Haakon finished 40th and Alastair 65th in the sprint event at World Junior Championships. March 12, 2007 - Rocky Mountain Ski Marathon Mania! Congrats to Nico, Sammy and Ross for finishing 1-2-3 in their category. Other podiums were accumulated by Magi Scallion (1st, 30 km), Sheila Lenes & Susan Gudwer (2nd, women relay), William Brooks (3rd, 10 km), Marc Dupuis (1st), Steffi Holland (1st), Carly Holland (2nd), and Micah Killick (3rd). March 10, 2007 - Congratulations to Graeme Killick, Evan Bruce and Michaela Howie at the Canada Winter Games. With consistent top-10 results for Michaela, top-20s for Evan and a podium spot for Graeme, these youngsters have shown they are amongst the best in Canada!

March 8, 2007 - Way to go Graeme Killick for a 3rd place finish in the 10 km Classic at Canada Winter Games... and 18th in the sprint!Congratulations to Michaela Howie for 12th place in the 7.5 km classic and 8th in the sprint. February 25, 2007 - Can you say TOTAL DOMINATION? Check out results from the Kananaskis Ski Marathon (Cookie Race) (Click here) - in particular pay attention to the club name next to the top skiers in the 24 km, 15 km and 5 km events.. Congrats to John Groeneveld for placing 2nd in the 42 km event!

January 4, 2007 - Haakon Lenes placed third today at the World Junior Qualification races in Rossland, B.C. in a closely contested race.  Two more Banff Ski Runners (Graeme Killick - 8th, Jess Cockney - 10th) ranked in the top 10 junior skiers.  On the ladies side, Michaela Howie finished in 12th place, less than 30 seconds behind 3rd place.  For complete results, please go to www.zone4.ca/results.asp?id=1048.

December 15, 2006 - Congratulations to Nico, Paul and Liam who received academic honours this term in school.  Congratulations also to Jack Garnier, a Ski Runner on break, who achieved honours with excellence!

December 10, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners raced to third place in club rankings at the first Alberta Cup of the season, with 9 Gold medals.   With only thirty athletes racing over the two days and totally unrepresented in some categories, this was an excellent result for the club.  Congratulations to Marc Dupuis, Paul Dupuis, Hillary Schrama, Hakkon Lenes, Magi Scallion, John Groeneveld and Doug Gudwer for medaling both days!  For more information on how the club did, please click here.

November 30, 2006 - Congratulations to Banff Ski Runners for excellent racing on a tough course in hard conditions.  Many thank to the wax team who did such a great job!  In this Haywood Canada Cup Race, Haakon led the way with a 4th place finish in the Junior category, only 30 seconds off first.  Jesse Cockney had a break-through race, finishing 5th, only 1 second behind Haakon.  The rest of the gang included (Evan - 8, Graeme - 9, Gerard - 20, Eric - 21, William - 22, and Alastair - 24).  The gentlemen raced a long 15 km while the women raced 10 km.  Magi finished 17th in the Open Women event.  Results are at www.zone4.ca

November 28, 2006 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - The Banff Ski Runners club, of Banff, Alberta, led the medal count at the first Canada Cup races of the season held at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre in British Columbia.  With a total of 5 gold medals (11 total) Banff Ski Runners were just ahead of Edmonton Nordic Ski Club (4 gold, 6 total) and Foothills Nordic Ski Club (3 Gold, 7 total).  Banff Ski Runners had a total of nine athletes win medals, including Junior National Team Member, Haakon Lenes.

Club coach, Anders Lenes, says this dominant performance indicates the depth of the Banff Ski Runners club.  In Sunday's pursuit races, led by Graeme Killick (gold) and Gerard Garnier (bronze), Banff Ski Runners placed six athletes in the top eight skiers in the Junior Boys category.   The Banff Ski Runners also won silver and bronze in the Juvenile Girls, and gold in Juvenile Boys and Midget Boys.  During the sprint races in Saturday's plunging temperatures, the Banff Ski Runners also succeeded in placing four skiers on the podium.

The Banff Ski Runners will take to the trails again in Canmore, Alberta on Thursday, November 30 - Sunday, December 3 in the next set of Haywood Canada Cup races.

November 27, 2006 - First races of the season were at Sovereign Lake, BC.  Banff Ski Runners collected 5 gold medals and 11 medals in total for the most gold and total medals of any club.  Second was Edmonton with 4 Gold and third was Foothills with 3 Gold.  Medals were won by NINE Banff Ski Runners Athletes!  Check out results by CLICKING HERE.

October 29, 2006 - Snow!  Just in time for race season to begin!  All athletes representing Banff Ski Runners in races this season are to race in a BSR race suit.  The club has just ordered an additional 20 suits which will arrive in late November.  The suits will cost approximately $220 - please contact Pat Brooks (email ekiden@banffskirunners.net for her contact info if you don't have it).

October 16, 2006 - Sign up for the officials course, hosted by Banff Ski Runners.  Officials certifications are mandatory for individuals interested in volunteering at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games.  For more information, click here

October 10, 2006 - Bad news - Les Parsons, coach of Mt. Ste. Anne Nordic Ski Club was recently admitted to hospital due to a tumor in his stomach.  He will have to remain in hospital for a number of weeks.  Banff Ski Runners send our best wishes to Les!  We hope he recovers soon and comes back to train with us again.

September 19, 2006 - Wow, lots of news today!  For results of the uphill time trial, please click here.  I have also added links to the links page for the Bow Corridor Regional Race Series and for the Fast and Female event for girls and young women.  Foothills Nordic Ski Club is hosting an officials course on October 21 in Calgary.  This course is important to attend if you are interested in officiating at the 2007 World Cup or the 2010 Olympic Games.  More information on this will be available shortly (or by contacting Pat Brooks).

September 17, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners' "Petter Northug Week" was slightly modified to the addition of snowflakes in the equation.  Successfully preventing one time trial and postponing another, the fresh snow was nonetheless enjoyed by the club as practise was on snow Friday, Saturday and Sunday!  Sunday time-trial results (classic up Norquay) will soon be posted.  Check out the photo gallery for the latest pictures!

September 14, 2006 - Time Trial Results: Tuesday's Skate Sprint Time-trial was a raging success with close to ten spectators and nearly twice as many participants!  Results are found by clicking here.  Today's running time trial has been postponed due to the SNOW!  Perhaps Saturday's Classic TimeTrial up Norquay will turn into a real skiing event!!

September 10, 2006 - Photo gallery has been updated with some pictures of Haakon and Martin training with their Norwegian counterparts on a trip to Norway this summer.  Watch out Hetland and Northug... the Canadians are skiing on your tails!  This trip to Norway was very productive for the boys and Anders.  New training ideas and technique tips were cultivated and inspiration was brought back to Canada. 

August 25, 2006 - The new strength program is working!  Martin-chicken-wings-Lenes is now known as Martin-Schwarzenegger-Lenes and Paul Dupuis can haul practically twice his body weight up a 10 metre long rope!

August 21, 2006 - The new rollerski trail between Canmore and Harvie Heights along the north side of the Trans Canada Highway is well underway.  Many thanks to those who made this project happen.  Also, many thanks to the Harvie Heights gentleman who commissioned the big and beautiful speed warning signs along that road.

August 20, 2006 - Registrations are pouring in for the Banff Ski Runners' biggest fundraising event of the year - the Banff Ekiden.  For more information, go to www.banffskirunners.net/ekiden.htm

August 15, 2006 - Summer training is well underway.  Watch for Banff Ski Runners athletes in local running races and other such events.

July 20, 2006 - National Junior Ski Team member, Haakon Lenes will be participating in the uphill time trial in Canmore with the rest of the Junior National Team.  Club practise will begin at 9 am by Quarry Lake so that club members can watch the event that begins at 9.30 and cheer for Haakon!

July 19, 2006 - Summery training is well under way.  Check out photos in the photo gallery.  National Junior Team members from Scotland and Wales have joined the club for the summer and are enjoying training in the Canadian Rockies.

July 15, 2006 - It was with great sadness that the Banff Ski Runners heard of the passing of one of its long-time members, Hans Gmoser.  Hans was a member of Banff Ski Runners since 1950 and will be missed.

July 13, 2006 - Uphill time-trial day.  Nearly all club members participated - way to go!

May 1, 2006 - Club parent/adults meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 5, at 7 pm.  It will be once again hosted by the gracious John and Andrea at their home.

April 28, 2006 - Is anybody interested in hosting a cross-country skier who will be training with our club, for 2 months this summer.  His name is Brandon and he is 19 years old.  Please contact magi or Ian Bruce as soon as possible.

April 20, 2006  - Year-end banquet will begin at 6 pm at the Banff Park Lodge.  Please bring your skiing medals for a photo opportunity.

April 19, 2006 - Les Parsons, former coach of Beckie Scott and current coach of Alex Harvey, will be visiting Banff Ski Runners and leading tonight's training session.  Lisa Patterson, coach of the Lakehead University Ski Team, will also be in attendence.

April 10, 2006 - Haakonsmoen will be visiting the Bow Valley in June 2006 and will be participating in various club activities.

March 21, 2006 - The Strindheim Ski Club from Trondheim, Norway, the group that visited Banff Ski Runners last summer, is very interested in continuing the exchange.  Not only do they want to come back and visit this year, but they are also anxious to have members of the Banff Ski Runners go to visit them in Norway.

March 20, 2006 - Tor Arne Hetland, Norwegian Sprint Champion, is expected to visit the Bow Valley late this April with his wife.  He has been invited to come to a training session with Banff Ski Runners so he can learn a thing or two about cross-country skiing.

March 20, 2006 - Mr. Haakonsmoen, the Norwegian coach who handed a pole to Sara Renner during the sprint relay at the Olympics, will be visiting the Bow Valley and Banff Ski Runners this spring.  He is looking forward to training with and speaking to the club.

March 19, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners has been invited to participate in the parade in Canmore on March 31, 2006 - welcoming back Chandra, Sara and Devon from their excellent World Cup and Olympic campaigns.

March 15, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners finished the national championships with a total of 17 medals (12 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze), more than any other club at the championship, and nearly twice as many gold medals as any other club.  With only 13 skiers representing the club, Banff Ski Runners also took home third position in overall club points rankings.   

March 8, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners lead the total medal count at the 2006 National Cross Country Ski Championships with 9 medals (6 gold, 3 silver).  Lappe Nordic Ski Club is in second place with only 5 medals.

March 5, 2006 -  The Banff Ski Runners Annual General Meeting will be held April 28, 2006 at the Banff Park Lodge.  Board of Directors and Executive Committee elections will take place at that time.

March 1, 2006 - Banff Ski Runners took home quite a medal haul from the Alberta Winter Games: 7 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.  The club was represented by Zach Holland, Paul Dupuis, Seraina Keller, Sammy Groeneveld, Nico Bohning-Hunter, and Jack Garnier.
